California Wine Country Tandem Rally

September 6-9, 2010

Ninety minutes north of San Francisco, Sonoma County is a favorite place for tandeming. In addition to small wineries, Sonoma is famous for redwood forests, Pacific beaches, meandering rivers, oak-studded hills and (if you know where to look) hundreds of miles of quiet back roads. This area is so superb that even though Santana is located hundreds of miles south, this will be our eighth Sonoma County tandem safari. A problem with past trips was accommodations. Santa Rosa is a big city with great hotels and horrific traffic. The town of Sonoma has cozy inns, but is too far from the best rides. Smaller towns have grungy inns or motels at a freeway offramp. Our cure? For 4 days of perfect tandeming that will begin next Memorial Day, Santana has booked the entire award-winning Geyserville Inn. Set amidst acres of scenic vines (in September the leaves will be turning and the grapes will be ready for harvest), the Geyserville Inn has 38 spacious and well-appointed rooms plus a very talented chef. This rally includes all meals: eye-opening breakfasts, professionally catered mid-ride lunches, and gourmet dinners. Optionally, these dinners can include expert pairings with great wines from select Sonoma vintages. If you’re a cyclist who’d like to know more about California wine, this is a wonderful opportunity. And if wine isn’t a passion, Sonoma’s outstanding cycling and fine cuisine is simply too good to miss.
